Vitamin K

Next year, my department celebrates 100 years since its founding by Edward A. Doisy*. Doisy shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Henrik Dam in 1943 for the discovery of vitamin K and the determination of its chemical structure. Vitamin K is an essential cofactor in clotting.

Bizarrely, in the third decade of the 21st century, there are people who believe that vitamin K doesn't exist:

"There is a rising trend of people in health misinformation circles on the internet claiming that vitamin K does not exist and therefore babies should not be given this injection at birth, despite it being standard practice approved by the CDC."

*it will also celebrate my retirement
