Ecce Homo buffoonius

I posted yesterday about Trumps NFT trading cards. Evidently, after announcing his 2024 campaign, Trump is going after the middle school boy demographic.

Josh Marshall has a paywalled post about whether Trump will be the 2024 GOP nominee. Here are the nut grafs:

"There seems little doubt that another Republican could defeat Donald Trump for the nomination, though I’m skeptical of whether that person is Ron DeSantis. The more operative question is what you do with Trump after you beat him. Normally you have a primary battle and one candidate comes out on top. It may be a cakewalk or a brutal slog. But one candidate gets the most delegates and the others fall in behind that candidate.

"It’s very difficult, though, to imagine Donald Trump losing a hard fought primary struggle and then just gracefully falling in line as a surrogate for the guy who beat him. In fact, it’s basically impossible to imagine that happening."

Trump appears to be swirling the drain. His polls are even worse than when he was president (his approvals never once rose to 50% for his entire presidency). A sensible party would have repudiated this loser after he endorsed so many losers in November, but asking the modern GOP to publicly untether itself from the sinking Trump ship is apparently still a bridge too far. His supporters will continue to embarrass the party when they take over the House in January. How sad for the party of Lincoln.
