Is the 2nd Amendment a suicide pact?

In the wake of the first anniversary of the 6 January insurrection, I've read a number of posts by defenders of violent overthrow of our government claiming that the 2nd Amendment was intended by the Founding Fathers as a suicide pact. This is the sort of sophistry used by Scalia and others to decouple the "right to bear arms" from membership in a "well-regulated militia." There's no question from the history of that time that the Founding Fathers expected that private ownership of firearms was intended as an extension of the government's use of force for self-defense, not to arm the public against the government.
Here's a well-written article that examines the history and intent of the 2nd Amendment and falsifies the claim that its purpose was to arm civilians to commit treason. https://scholarship.law.umn.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1774&context=concomm
