The promise of biotechnology
I came of age at the advent of modern biotechnology: cloning, sequencing, genetic engineering. The promise of biotechnology was that it would mitigate human suffering. But sotto voce was "at a price." We are steadily moving from "can we do this" to "at what price?"
Even well-established therapy like insulin has become an opportunity for price-gouging, and people are dying for lack of access.
This is the latest egregious example. A lottery? Seriously?
